  • More idleing probs

Ok, i know you guys must be getting sick of all my problems, but my festiva is a problem child :?

Today i cleaned off my spark plugs (i gotta buy new ones but i had no wheels and i was bored so i thot it was worth a try)

It dosent miss as bad now and it has WAY more pep. I didnt try it on the hwy, but i didn't have too much trouble getting it up to speed on back roads.

Anyways, now once its warmed up, it kinda 'searches' if you will. It will bounce up and down between 1000 and 900 rpm

Also when its idling if you pump the gas pedal rapidly the rpms drop slowly till it stalls. Possibly related, i notice shortly after i shut the car off, if i disconnect a vac hose there is zero residual vacuum. Isn't there supposed to be some residual vacuum?

no residual vacuum, if there is, you have a new problem. the idle drop issue is most likely due to slow IAC response. ("Doc, my arm hurts when i do this." "Do't do that any more.") a hunting idle can be attributed to a vacuum leak near the TB or TPS, OR as stated before, slow IAC response (probably needs cleaned and lubed)
    Trees aren't kind to me...

    currently: 2 88Ls (Scrappy and Jersey), 88LX, 90L(Pepe), 91L, 91GL (Skippy) 93 GL Sport (the Mighty Favakk), 94 (Bruce) & 95 Aspire SEs, 97 Aspire (The Joker),

You mean there shouldn't be any vac left if you unhook a line after the car is shut off? Weird, my other car always had val left after i shut er off.

Ok, if its like everything else it probably needs a good cleaning, I will look into it.

ok, i took the IAC off the car and cleaned it out with carb cleaner. then i soaked it in seafoam and put it back on the car. It seems a little better, but it still searches. I checked it with an ohm meter and its about 11.5... i think the book said its supposed to be around 7? (cant remember the exact # but i know it was off) Maybe its finished?

900-1000 sounds like a good rpm.
that 500 on the other hand.....
my idle used to go way down, then up, down up down, you know, so i turned the idle screw up, and it was great, but now it seems to be lowering itself again.
any posibility that's computer screwing me over?

get the engine running at idle and then spray the engine bay with starter fluid, primarily around the vacuum and intake system, if the idle picks up a bit while spraying, you have a vacuum/intake leak
