1991 ford festiva automatic

as i was driving the transmision acted like it droped in nutral and was making a grinding sound so it cleared up and i drove it home where it did it again in the driveway. this morning i start it up and it goes in drive and reverse but was afraid to drive it on the street.

is there anything external that would cause this like eletrical or vacume before i get another transmision? fluid is good but it was not hot when pulled into gas station last night after it happened the first time.

best way to tell is to drop the pan and inspect for debris, if theres like metal filings (black fuzz is OK), get a new tranny or get ready to fix that one
