  • Carb Questions

I started working on my 1988 festy lx with ps and ac (but i took the belt off) to see if i could find out why it decided to idle at 3000 rpms.
There are no vacuum leaks that i could find even when i sprayed water all over the lines and around seals.
I cleaned out the carb and when i put it back on i left the linkage disconnected on a vacuum operated plunger that has orange dotted lines hooked up to it.
There was also a linkage that has notches in it that i turned all the way counterclockwise facing from the drivers side. now when i start it the rpms stay at 1100 and it runs a little rough but it also hasnt been started in quite a while.
If someone could post a pic of theirs so i could make sure all the lines are where they should be i would be grateful. The previous owner wasnt the brightest bulb on the tree and my manual doesnt even have a diagram in it.

My carb gets stuck a little open on start ups sometimes. If i press the pedal in all the way and release it will idle nice.

If the automatic choke doesn't disengage the engine will idle fast. The owner's manual says wiat 10 seconds after the engine starts and depress the gas pedal half way and let it out (slowly). There are also a couple of idle adustment screws. The Haynes manual covers carburettor adjustment, too much info to attempt to type in here..

Sounds like a weak choke spring. That is the same problem I am dealing with and I haven't found any place to buy just the choke cap with spring, so I haven't been able to fix it. I refuse to pay $400-500 for a new carb. Good Luck
