  • What to take to a Pull and Pay to yank a festy Tranny

Never pulled a FWD tranny before.

I think I found a 5 speed at a local pull and pay.. question is:

What all should I take to make it possible? I have about everything... or can get it.

I know there was a thread on this, but I can't find it.

    Thanks in advance.

#1 go to home depot and pickup a ryobi cordless sawsall and blades, they like $50 and worth everypenny, i have taken aspire front swaps by zipping right thru the lower control arm, axles and struts. and be done and out in 10 minutes.

          Thats awesome.

I just started taking my old tranny out this evening. So far all you really need is general hand tools. 10, 12, 14, 17 mm sockets... 29mm for the axle nuts. Hint- at the jy crack the axle nuts while the car is still on the ground. I forgot to do that last time and didnt realize it till i had spent 1/2 hour getting the car up on a few tires with a spare tire jack lol.

You don't even need to take off the axle nuts. Just take out the strut bolts (17mm IIRC) and then you should have enough clearance to pry the axles out of the tranny.

ok pulled this off today. I took the tie rod ends off and the strut bolts and that was enough to get the alxles out. I got the first bolt out of the crossmember, then the second one started spinning, and it was raining and everything was muddy so i didnt feel like fighting with it underneath the car. So what i did was unbolted both tranny mounts, dropping it on the crossmember then i put my jack on the far left (pssgr) side of the oilpan and took off the pssgr side mount. then i started lowering the pssgr side, and as it lowered, i kept shoving it over to the drivers side. so i basically kept goin till it flipped right onto its side (belts on the ground, tranny in the air) then i just lifted the tranny off the block
