  • 91 Festiva stalls when accelerating

    I washed the engine.
Installed a new cap and rotor, I have taken the cap and rotor off several times to make sure there's no moisture inside and have also switched them out with other running festivas.
Car idles perfect , if I step on the accelerator fast it stalls for a couple of seconds.
If i step on it slow it works perfect.
    Car is not drivable.
I have five festivas and have washed all there engines, I have had one sense 1991 when I bought a new one for $4,777. brand new.
So I have done this about 50 times and never had this problem.
    Thanks Robert
    I have
1991 gray automatic with most options.
1990 white 5 speed with all options except sun roof.
1991 Blue automatic with most option.
1991 Red 5 speed with bad head gasket no options.
1989 white fuel injected LX automatic parts car with all options removed.
I would add pictures but I don't know how.

That happens to mine if I get it TOO wet

I have blown air and have used contact cleaner (brake clean) on the TPS connector and the connector on the VAF .

Most likely the rubber on the plug is cracked and water got in there and making it wig out .

Sometimes just the heat will dry it out , if you run it long enough .

WD 40 will displace water. Spray your electrical connections with it. You might just need a tune up. New wires, cap and rotor. Send me pictures of your car and I will post them for you.

It was the TPS connector (throttle position sensor) and the rubber on the plug was cracked like you said.
Thanks you saved me a lot of time.

No problem , been there and done it , several times

Maybe before it gets too cold and wet , I am going to seal all my connections with clear silicone .
