So I'm trying to do the bushings in my shifter.....i got the shifter rod loose from the front, but I have no idea how I'm going to get bushings in.....I don't even know how to describe it.....the u-joint looking part that needs the bushings looks like its pressed on or something? Any ideas?!

Well, I couldn't wait any longer....so I did what I do best....I rigged it up. Should work for a little while at least....I can do it all right at some other point in time....So how about a shifter link bushing for Variuos GM trucks 1960 and up? ha. I took one bushing and made 2.....cost= $1.98 and a little time.

ok, that's a rivet-pin. To remove it, you need to grind off the small end. You'll then be able to drive out the pin. To resecure, drill a hole in the center of the pin (longwise, going from end to end) deep enough to tap for a small screw/bolt. After you replace the bushings, re insert the pin, and retain with a screw/bolt and washer, and don't forget the loctite. Also, I found some nylon bushings at Home Depot that work great for this. Go to the hardware isle and look for the drawers with specialty hardware, then look for nylon spacers and bushings. You're looking for 1/2" outside diameter with (I think) a 3/8"inside dia (might be listed as 0.368"). You'll need two or three 1" long, and one package of two 1/2" long, as well as six nylon washers. Total bill will be about $4. Just did this to my 90, and it works very well.Jim DeAngelis
