(1)No, The car will start and then die in about 2 seconds. That is experience speaking. If you unplug it while the car is running, you will be lucky if it stays running and if it does it will run very rough. My plug wiggled loose on money and made the car run horrible till it came almost all the way out and had no connection. Then the car would not start up at all. The circuit was designed so that the fuel pump will not run without the mass air flow sensor plugged in. Also the computer needs to know the quantity of the air you are bringing in as well as the density so that it can adjust how much fuel to give the engine.
(2) If you were to remove the auto seatbelts, you will need the roof lining and and the trim from an 88-89 festiva. These had manual seatbelts. You will need the roof lining because it is cut smaller for auto seatbelts and if you use the trim from the manual seatbelt cars, there will be a gap between the two.The Festiva Store

i see your in BC. canadian festivas were never sold with power belts, your car must have been imported. Its easy to install the manual belts, if you use the manual belts from a 90+ canadian festiva they will bolt up, otherwise with the 88/89 units i think you have to make a little bracket. go to a junk yard and find a donor. to make everything look good you should atleast get the belts, headliner, A&B pillar trim. If you want to get picky, you can replace the carpet too to cover up the holes. its all easy to swap out with very basic tools and knolage. Good luck, and report back if you have any questions!89SX funtop! Fully loaded!
