  • Coolant leak

Today I tried to fill my cooling system with a 50/50 mix and noticed I had a leak as I was pouring in the mix. It seems like a good sized leak and was coming from the back of the oil pan a few inches behind the drain plug and I didn't get the car up.
Anyone have a clue as to where the leak might be??????
    Thanks

      Brian,

Thanks for the quick reply, as it was dark when I discovered the leak I really haven't gotten into it much and the factory workshop manual does not have much in the way of a leak but from the drawings it seems like it's right over the water pump so I'm really hoping it's a heater hose. The leak was steady, I'll check more tomorrow. I'll look for an exploded view of the cooling system on the web. I think the bottom half of the system is holding fluid as I drove about 200 mile Wednesday night, no overheating and the temp gauge stayed right about where it should be. By the way I'm a carbed 89.

Make sure it doesn't leak before you drive it, the coolant temp guage sensor is in the head, if the head don't have water, it don't read hot.

kzbill, thanks for that info, hope you didn't learn that the hard way. Going to look now.

I now see that the leak is coming from behind the water pump plastic cover so I'm going to presume the pump is leaking, no water in the oil.
