1991 Ford Festiva GL 2 door automatic 3 spd, AC, Pwr Brakes, cold air intake, new timing belt, fuel & water pump, transmission serviced back in 2005 new gasket & filter, anti sway bars front & back, plugs, dist cap, wires, plugs all new, over 150,000(speedometer broken when purchased).
2 questions transmission related. #1-in 1st & 2nd gear at times the transmission seems to shift while in one gear or the other. Almost a sluggishness at first then something gets in sync and speed increases significantly. Happens more in 2nd gear but has shown up a few times in 1st gear.
#2. speedo has never worked. Got it to work a few times using the replacement style cable(measure, cut & cap) but that no longer worked so I purchased a genuine ford speedo cable and still no go. I can make the speedo move before I hook into the transmission but once its in, no go. I know I'm hitting that insert correctly and the attachment screws down securely. Is it something I can fix. I just did the timing belt but transmissions are a different thing. I've replaced filters but never taken anything apart on one.
What do you people think. New tranny or rebuild this one. It pops from 1st to 2nd w/a nice jolt and quick bark of the tires so I know it's got some life left in it.
