Finally got em done!! WOOO! so yeah it's amazing now. feels like i have power steering.
replaced drivers and passengers. drivers has been clicking for ages and the passengers just recently starting clunking...not a click but a clunk? lol so yeah..
replaced em both. ~75 per axle. a bit more for one than the other but yeah. the pass came out fairly okay. took a lot of prying to get it. (13 year old axles) really in there good. the circlips had expanded. so once the right was out, started on the left. pulled the linkage apart on accident and left only the inside cup thing. couldn't get it off. started into a second day and finally got it at the end of the day. popped the new one back in and readjusted the tie rods and alignment. alignment is (believe it or not) darn near perfect. i think i got good at it. put some axle grease on the insides of the tie rods where the cup and ball joint meet. oddly, this has made my turning so easy its unbelievable. this has fixed pretty much all my vibration and jerking that i've had since i got the car. alignment is great as well. have had a bad alignment for 4 months. also i think tightening everything and the new bolts i bought for it kind of helped. cleaned up the brakes as well. all in all, turned out amazing.
this was the short version. the long version intales that i had to take off the right side 2 times after i put it in because we couldn't get the left out and thought maybe we could tap it through from the right... didn't go so well... finally got it all though. i think i'm as close to an expert at this install now as i'm gonna get. had to take things apart and put them back together so many times that i've memorized all the pieces in there.
next step is to replace those inner tie rods that got a busted boot....
so i'm happy. YAY! lol definitely one of the recommended repairs.
also. sorry if this is the wrong place to post but it seemed like it would be okay? i know i've already finished this but i didn't think you'd want it in the other ones...
