Check to make sure the head has coolant in it too, the white smoke thing bothers me. NO coolant, no signal.
    it runs so sweet

OK so the car is running great now so it must have been the coolant sensor. Thank you guys so much for your help i probably never would have figured it out on my own.

OK so the car was running fine i took it on a couple hundred mile trip in the last Lil snow storm and ran fine till i was on my way back i got about 30 miles away from home and it started putting out black smoke and would barley go i could only have the peddle in a certin spot otherwise it would just do nothing. Oh and i seafomed it threw the intake hose like the day before and when i took it for a drive after foamed it it was spitting out Lil burning Darbee is that normal? And what could the cause of my new problem be? Oh and the check engine light only came on acouple of times during this period

Run the check engine proceedure again...like when you obtained code 9. If the light goes on and then off...the code number is stored until the battery is disconnected.

The limited throttle postion could be a couple of things...don't guess...get the code and post.

I tried to document everything I did in this thread..

I had some things that helped , others did not make a difference .
I still think flooding the IAC with Seafoam repeatedly helped , and the final adj. on the TPS really helped .

It is kind of a long thread , I did not know if you scrolled thru it .

Code 17 is the 'feed back system' fault....I believe this code is only set of by electronically controlled carbuetor models...that's pre' 92
The Haynes manual list a dozen or so sensors and outputs to check.....looks like just about everything.
I would be glad to scan and e-mail pages or could someone please post (pages 6-17 and 6-16)
Or does someone with acces to the Ford powertrain book have a better explanation?

You may be talking about carb model ..pre 90 ?

Code 17 on a FI car is the O2 sensor ... lean or rich condition /fuel pressure too high or low .

So really though could it just have been that some moisture got into the electrical connections or some thing?
Would that cause it to throw codes?
Cause I'm pretty sure some other people on here said that there cars had problems running in the rain so they sealed the connectors up with some silicone and had no more problems after that
