  • What kind of std tranny fluid?

    Hello,

What kind of tranny fluid goes inside a 92 ford festiva? Its a 5 speed. Also where does it go in from, I cant find anywhere to put it in.

    THanks

fallow the cable that comes out of ur firewall and goes down to the tranny. That is the speedo cable. Take out the hold down bolt that holds the speedo gear in, and fill it up there. that is where the book has you fill it up at

sorry bout that I didn't catch u were looking for the type as well till I seen the title again. use atf in it. some good ol atf is what it calls for. I can;t remember exactly the type is dextron mercon something like that LOL when u go to get it tell them it is the same stuff that ford calls for in the automatic. Mercon ya i think that is what it was.

OK , first you must unscrew the 17 or 19mm nut on the cable to release the cable from the gear housing.

then remove the 10mm bolt next to the cable on the transaxle.

then remove the speedo housing by twisting and pulling up on the housing

after removal of the housing. the aluminum piece from the gear to the top of the housing contains a raised long portion thin at the start then has a sort of step , then twice as wide THIS STEP IS THE FULL MARK and the housing is the dipstick.

the transaxle takes about 2.6 quarts of AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID.

              what I recommend is:

              Their MTFGlide is the best.

Coming from an AMSOIL dealer that's high praise.

Of course, that's $10 a quart instead of $1...but hey, it's your transmission.

i use Royal Purple synthetic lube in mine, that's my personal choice, no reason, except we use it in the '87 Mercedes Benz 190E 16v SCCA ITE class, like i said no reason

Yea it definitely uses atf, however good luck getting the speed sensor out of the transmission to fill it. They have a very bad tendency to "weld" themselves into the case. If the car hasn't been sitting for a while or doesn't have to many miles on it you should be ok. I tried to get mine out just to check it and of course the hold down broke off before the sensor would come loose. The thing is so tight in there that I don't even need the hold down to keep it in there!

On my 92, the cable housing screws on, there is no nut or anything tricky. Its almost like removing a plastic soda bottle lid.

Of course, that's $10 a quart instead of $1...but hey, it's your transmission.

Yea but how much does the tranny hold 2 quarts? Seems well worth it to me.

Yeah, I try to get people to think like that, but they don't seem to.

Also considering how often it's changed....

Just like convincing other people to use synthetic in their rear differentials.
