  • Grease FMS Ball Joints?

Picked up a pair of BJ's from FMS a while back, because I figure my 140k mi ones were going to go, and sure enough their showing the signs of being shot now.
My question is: they don't seem to have any grease in them? should i stick a needle through the boot a grease them? or should they not be greased?

i wish they came with grease fittings

    Thanks..

well, I'll tell you something, I bought some of those 2 years ago and the rubber didn't last 2 years, there gone now, and the car only gets driven 6 months out of the year, so I guess you can say they lasted 1 year LOL, but anyhow, they suck, so I bought napa ones that i'll put on next week when I replace the axel/hubs/bushings front end repair exstravaganza! :?

Nate, I got a MOOG lower control arm a few years back and it is holding up great and is guaranteed for life. I did cost me $50 (my cost - listed for 130). With that said and the fact that you now have these other parts, you should consider getting some rubber boots from Energy Suspsension. There is grease inside the ball joint now, but what you need to be concerned with is keeping the water and dirt out. Odds are the rubber boots on the ball joint will hold up for a while - keep an eye on them and when they start to crack put the "energy suspension" replacements on. The Energy Suspension replacement boot is made out of some tough rubber (polyurethane, I think) which will last almost forever. They cost about $4 for a pair and AutoZone will order them for you - Good Luck and have a great Christmas Holiday - Best Wishes in the New Year. Royce

I've had FMS sourced lower control arms on Uncle Fester for two years / 35k miles now with no problem.

I've already got the energy suspension boots, i had them on my old ball joints! Thanks for the tip though

I figured i would just use the stock rubber ones for as long as they last and then put the energy suspension ones on, i just wasn't sure if they came pre-greased since it seems like the rubber boot is empty. sounds like they do though.. thanks

(oh, and my old BJ's were SHOT, one of them i can move up and down ~ 1/4" with my fingers :s )
