  • axel hub end difference

hay guys, I'm getting ready to rebuild my front end and bought 2 new axels from NAPA for it, but upon inspection, the ends that go into the hub are different from each other, their the same diameter, but one has an extra "step" or reduction where the grease seal would be, is this gonna affect anything? i'll try to post a pic later

ok hears the difference between the two ends, this is the only difference between them other than the style of nut on the end

now that I look at it I think the seal rides on the inner margen, where it gets fat just after the splines, and that extra taper would be just exposed to the air and not a mating surface, am I correct?

The seal dia's look the same...but the widths look different//or maybe it's me.
Like any good repairman...if possible...compare it to the parts you tke out.
If it makes you feel better, I trust NAPA more than anyother aftermarket supply chain. Never got a bad part from them...even their tune up parts are of good or better factory quality.

that's because NAPA buys 1st quality parts from the manufacturers, unlike the McParts stores. They will typically buy a few 1st's but mostly 2nd quality. Then you have Sprawl Marx, that buys nothing but 3rd quality, bottom-o-the-barrel stuff. The OEM's specify 1st quality parts, but then beat up the Tier 1 suppliers on cost, who then substitute some 2nds to offset the lost profits.
