  • Ford breakout box

A question for the professions mechanics here. Could a universal 80 pin breakout box like the one below be used ( assuming I have the specific car to box adapter ) to do a pinpoint test on a festiva ? It comes with a 60 pin Ford adapter. This may be a stupid question but that has never stopped me before.

sure, why not? I have a Ford 60 pin and a 104 pin, as well as the Festiva adapter.

An adapter for an 89 EFI is on ebay right now, ending in a hour or so. That's why I was wondering about the box.

Cool thanks ! So a breakout box for a festiva doesn't have to be a 60 pin ? If I have an adapter I could use a 104 pin box too ? My manual calls specifically for EEC-IV 60 pin breakout box 014-00322 or 007-00033. Sorry , Ive never used one.

then you're set. The 60 pin adapter will connect to the MECS adapter.

The MECS adapter would be this, right ? At least for an 89 EFI ?

00045 should be for carbed engines, and 00057 should be for EFI

By the way, MECS stands for Mazda Engine Control System.

you're right, I forgot about the '89-only ATX EFI!, So yes, you're chart is correct. 00045 would be for '89 ATX-EFI
