  • auto tranny 96 ford festiva

I am doing this for a single mom to help...the tranny is a 5 speed auto and shifts fine up to third gear. It won't shift into 4th until about 80kph. Then won;t go into 5th.

Is there and adjustment that I can do?? I hope its not computer controlled. I have been told the fluid has been changed recently. Nothing else has been done. Thanks for some guidance...

    Five speed auto??

What country are you in? If you're in Australia, you might have a four speed auto in your "Festiva" (Aspire). Even so, U.S. Aspires didn't get four speed autos.

If you really do have more than three speeds, then it's likely a four speed auto ATX. And that would explain why you can't get into fifth gear!

'92L "Twinstiva" 5sp, salvage titled, waiting for repairs...
    '93GL "Luxstiva," '94 B6 engine & ATX; needs overhauled
'89L "Muttstiva," now a storage bin, future trailer project

lol, thanks mate...yes, that is a good reason for it not going into 5th....
yes, I am in australia. The lady I am speaking for is about 4 hours north of me and I am going to go up there to see what I could do for her. My wife and I have known her a long time and helped her in many ways and she told me it was a five speed. I will get more info on that. I also had previously thought that the car was also a kia of some sort...you may be able to tell I am not much on makes etc. but I know a bit about working on cars pretty good. So if I can work on this (mechanically) I will "get 'er done!" Thanks

It may have a bad vacuum modulator not letting it shift. But that usually affects all shifts in all gears.

G'day Brian, thanks for the thought. I have spoken with her about it all again to clarify things for me and talk intelligently here...(tongue in cheek), lol...well, she did tell me it is a 4 speed (Karl) and that it does wind out in the other gears. Without having a book, where is the modulator located. I used to have an old 1975 (I think I am getting old now) Ford Maverick in 1976 that I believe I had to replace that part in as well. If I took this car to a tranny shop and they put in on a computer diagnostic, would it confirm that or tell me the problem if something else?
Thanks for taking the time to help.
