because i dont like that mechanic doesnt pick up my calls all the time, i started to service my car myself. fortunately, i hav a friend who is studying in car mechanics in Australia. he gave me a lot of help. slowly, i get to learn more detail about my car. today, i replaced two stock speakers. i read the manual, it told me i had to disconnect the battery. because my car's head unit is not from factory, disconnecting battery didnt cause factory code problem. while, i remember i read something before it says if disconnected battery, ECU will hav problem and engine will not run very well. will that be a problem?

Congratulations on learning to do your own work!! Keep at it and you won't regret it. I recently lost most of my brakes in my '93 GL and Firestone wanted $1500 to replace nearly everything I had. I spent under $120 to do it myself and they work fine. Firestone said my RF caliper was bad, yet it wasn't. All I needed was a new master cylinder and bleeding.
As I understand it, when you disconnect your battery and then reconnect it, your ECU will take around 20 miles or so to reorient itself after being disconnected. So it should not pose any problems.
If I'm wrong, I hope someone else will correct me! However, I have disconnected my battery many times and had no problems. Doing this is very common when working on car electrics.

Won't cause a problem unless your car has some kind of immobiliser system that's tied into power functions. Was that an option on Australian models? I know that with a lot of Toyotas (yep, I've got one of them too) if the power drops below 10.5v, then the car needs to be taken to a dealer and "rebooted." Pain in the butt excuse for making more money if you ask me.
