  • Head won't come off

1988 Festiva. Disconnected both manifolds and all 10 head bolts. the head is not bolted to the engine in any way I guarantee it. I have used a pry bar, I have used a bfh, and I have tied a rope to the two hooks on opposite sides of the head then connected the rope to my old subaru and took off lol. It dragged the car about a foot but did not get the head off lol. What in the world can I do? Tomorrow I will connect a cherry picker to it and see if I can get it off before I pick the front end off the ground...but what the hell?

same problem here man. mine is on a stand tho so i cant use any of the more aggressive methods you've tried. I can lift the whole block off the ground and it wont budge. If you get it off post how you did it!

Like I asked Stefan in another post, and this may sound like a stupid question, but did you remove the timing belt?

yes the timing gear is off. I have never had a problem like this before. I am positive that all of the bolts are off because I have another head off that I looked at and made sure. Hopefully I can get my friend to bring my cherry picker back today so I can try to lift it off by going straight up. I will let you all know.

got my head off today! Right when I gave up yesterday I sprayed pb blaster down into each of the head bolt holes. Well I came home today and decided I would give it another try with the pry bars. Put a prybar on the front side of the engine (cam sprocket side) in between one of the exhaust manifold bolts and some nub on the block and the thing popped right off. I guess the pb blaster loosened something up over the 24 hours! Awesome! Tomorrow the head will go back on!
