  • Transmission Not getting past second gear?

A friend of mine rebuilt my automatic transmission the festiva, but he did something wrong because it isn't shifting into third gear, what could the problem be? Is there an easy fix without tearing it all apart?

    THanks!

This is a big question. The absolute first thing I'd check is tranny fluid level. Make sure you follow the correct procedure for warm up and checking the fluid. I had a very similar problem a few years ago (different trans, but the theory is sound) and after a long while of trying to figure out what was going on, I discovered my "tech" friend had added about a gallon too much fluid.

After that, however, it gets complicated. Dirt in the valve body? Bad accumulator? Bad pump? Could be a lot of things.

How about this, how much work is it to switch over to a 5spd?
