  • Ground for timing adjustment

Can/will someone assist me in identifying the plug to ground for checking timing? The manual just says it's a single plug near the brake booster; my '90 has '3' single plugs, one double "T", and 2 triples.

Correct...be careful...the RPM (tach) connector is also a on pin connector with a yellow/green wire...however, it really close to the coil.

I just checked and I have a black, single female plug that's yellow and green; I also have a white, single, female plug that's yellow and green; also, the hot wire to the coil is yellow and green. I'm assuming the BLACK is the ground that I'm looking for. When I ground the wire, how will I know it's the correct one? Will the engine idle change?

I don't remember which wire, but I DO remember that it needs to be grounded BEFORE you start the engine for the test. If you ground it while the engine is already running, it has no effect.

thanks dave, I see that you have a yellow festiva as well; same color as mine but I added red flames.

Black, single pin, female, located right by the master cylinder, right beside the white single pin connector that screwed me up the first time I tried this. It won't be plugged into anything, just hanging there.

The Black connecttor is for the Test, The White (gray) is the RPM/tach line and it's not the coil hot it the negative side of the coil....and yes...the black is the ground you looking for.

The STI must be grounding in the with the key in the off position prior to turning the the run position to obtain codes. It may be grounded at any time to set the idle or base timing.
