Does anyone have a few pictures of a weber 32 36 installed on their festiva? Im working on the swap and I am trying to get an idea of what it may look like when I get done.
The current carburetor needs rebuilt, but I saw where a few people recommended swapping to the Weber carburetor, and I was able to find one pretty cheap. I'm building the Festiva for a 24 hours of lemons race, and after seeing the conversion and realizing that I could take out a lot of the emissions stuff, and the computer, some sensors, some wiring, and a bunch of vacuum lines and potential headaches, I decided to go the route of the Weber.
My carburetor failed on my 1988 LX 5 Speed and I was unable to find a carburetor, and the weber conversion kit was too expensive, so I was able to find a similar carburetor for the 1987 Mazda 323 in the Asian markets. This is where I ordered mine from
It's okay I guess. When the engine is cold, the throttle binds on a vacuum line which goes away as the engine warms up. Also, the performance is a little sluggish, but that may be because I have some vacuum lines that I was unable to attach as this carburetor didn't have the corresponding ports. Finally, this carburetor was able to bolt right on with minimal modifications. I would go with the weber as they say it performs well, but in a pinch, this Mazda carburetor will get the car moving again.
I have run the Weber and the escort carb.I like the escort carb better. But next time would use a VW bug carb and a 1bbl. vw rabbit carb mounting flange..The adapter plates for the escort and Weber were simple to make. The bug carb would be even easier. When you decide on a carb.etc if you want I'll walk you through making the adapter.
30 + Vehicle projects right now.7 Festiva/Mazda 10 GM IDK how many others, hope that helps explain all the stupid questions/shortcuts/interchanges etc. trying to liquidate so I concentrate on the good ones. Goal finish 1 amonth using as much stuff as I already have accumulated.
