Recently Purchased an 88 Ford Festiva

Hey all - recently purchased and it is in great shape. However, it looks like the carburetor needs to be replaced. I was told that I need a new tension spring - which I can't get so it has been recommended that I replace the carburetor. Since I'll need to buy it online (probably from EBAY) - is there any guidance on which one I should purchase? Relatively new to this, so I dont want to get screwed over and I'd like it to run!

Post a note in the buy and sell forum. Somone may have a spring off an old carburettor or the whole carburettor. In areas where there are no emissions checks, or on cars used off road, the original feedback carburettor is sometimes replaced with a simpler one.

I have the carbs off my '88 and '89, one of them should have the spring you need. Do you have a picture of the spring?

So our mechanic said he fixed the tension in the spring - and the deeper issue is the 'throttle plate doesn't close when we hit the gas, which doesn't allow for the fuel to get where it needs to so the choke is the issue' - I'm trying to figure out WHICH carb to purchase. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Did he mean the choke plate doesn't close when the pedal is pressed to set the choke before starting it? That may just be the choke element.


If you're going to replace the carb you'll want to get an adapter from The Festiva Store and an early 80's Escort carb.
