I'd spend the extra $30 or so and at minimum go with a new pressure plate. It's cheap insurance. These cars came with a very tiny clutch set up and while I have gotten good service out of the original clutches if I had a car down to the disc I would spend the extra $30 and go for a new pressure plate. I remember doing a clutch on a Volvo 1800 Sport Coupe, pulling the engine, transmission and overdrive unit. A real pita btw and replacing only the disc. I got it all back together only to have it slipping within a few weeks. Should have done it right to begin with instead of doing it twice. Also, how do you know the pressure plate is good? Do you have a machine to test it for holding pressure and even pressure? Do yourself a favor and spend the extra money for a complete kit.'88 Festiva LX 5 speed, A/C, Carb, restored $$$ body paint, badly wrecked @ 200k.
'93 Festiva L, 5 speed, Aqua, bought from the original owner,.Zero rust but very nasty otherwise. Awaits the B6T.
'91 Festiva L, 5 speed, bought to drive while putting the B6T in the '93. now B6ME powered.

You are correct. Sort of false economy for most things. Bought the plate from another Festiva owner at the Lakestiva meet last month. It has seen very little use and looks as good as new. Yes, I will fret over it and maybe decide to get a new one.
I am looking for a Capri motor and parts to do the HP upgrade swap. Doing the Coil Overs now and just need to get by till I find the motor and parts.
I hate being Bi-Polar, it's awesome.
