  • Restoring my '88 LX

I'm not entirely sure if this is the best forum to post this under. This is also my first post on this website, so cut me some slack in case I say something stupid.

I daily drive a '90 L, and after ~12k miles I've grown to love this car. Unfortunately, the years haven't been too kind on her, and with over 265k on the odometer she's starting to give, and I feel it's time to move on. On the side I have an '88 LX that was intended to be my first car, but we never fully got around to getting it off it's feet. Before coming into my hands when I was 15, it had been left outside underneath a tree for a couple years with all the windows open (stupid, I know), and we promptly took it apart once ownership was transferred over. The motor has since been rebuilt, and we haven't done much to her past that. I'm intending to change that, and to start I'm finding/using my resources in order to get myself organized so that I don't end up doing a million things at once, and end up never getting the car finished and driving. I love the Festiva, I want to give this one a life outside of being a shell of what it once was. I have some money to spend to get the project going, and all the tools I could need, but I don't want to spend too much money as I'm in between jobs awaiting an upcoming interview (trying to keep busy/trying not to be a bum)

Anything helps, and thank you for taking the time to read until this point.

I'm guessing what you need to do is make a list of things do do and for that you'd need to check the vehicle over. Whats the minimum you have to do to get it operational and licenced, passing any safety and emissions inspections in your jurisdiction. Since it has been inactive for some time you might want to think about fluids, filtres, seals and libricants, also check fuel tank for rust and sediment. It's nice that they are such simple, sturdy machines. Best of luck.
