  • Ignition Keylock

    Hi All
My Daily Driver 1989 Festiva LX, ATX is having keylock problems.
Original part will not reliably switch to LOCK position and key can't be removed.

Got second keylock and key can't switch to LOCK position and key can be removed in any position, and even a screwdriver can be used as a key.

Anybody got a keylock with key that works correctly they can spare....or know where I might be able to get one?
Not any Festys in my local Junk yards.

I think 88-89 Festivas are the same part but 90 up is different. Anybody know for sure which ones are the same....and can keylock from any other car work in mine?

    Any help would be appreciated,
    Chuck

If you can't find a replacment you might try taking it to a locksmith. They can replace worn tumblers, and maybe fix other things. I'd give them a call, describe problem, and see what they say. Good luck.

152 for a full set,so not cheap https://www.thefestivastore.com/prod...rue&cst=custom. You might also want to try cleaning it out with some tri flow or some other kind of liquid lubricant and see if you can flush it out. People have a habit of using graphite to lubricate locks, but they do not know that you have to use it sparingly or it can gum everything up.

^^^ Indeed, I have sprayed WD-40 into the key hole to fix electrical problems but have not tried it for mechanical. Could work.

May have to resort to this, many thanks. I've already tried flushing it with electrical contact cleaner and WD-40, no joy.
