  • Instructions for a carburetor change-out

I want to change out my Carburetor for a Webber. Are there instruction on Ford Festiva.com that tells how to do that?

    Escort carb info-

    Remove/block off the egr system.

Block off all vacuum lines coming off the manifold except for the brake booster, pcv, and the distributor vac advance.

You may need a manifold vacuum hose for the choke pull off depending on which version of the escort carb you get.

If you have AC you’ll want to keep the idle up solenoid on the firewall and the vacuum lines for that system. Make sure to get the version of the escort carb that has an idle up dashpot.

You’ll need to figure out how to hook up the throttle cable and fuel line.

Wire the choke element to 12v ignition on.

Make a base plate for a universal round air filter housing that most parts stores keep in stock.

Stock jets will run ok but it’ll probably run rich and possibly wash oil off the cylinder walls so either buy smaller jets, or solder the jets closed and use a micro drill set to open them back up.

Trim the plunger off the fuel cut solenoid and reinstall the solenoid to plug the hole, or wire the solenoid to 12v ignition on.

Drill out and remove the brass caps covering the idle mixture screw so you can adjust it using the lean best idle method found on the Weber website.

There’s a manual on the escort carb in the files section of the Facebook group. Use it and a Festiva factory service manual to familiarize yourself with the carb, vacuum lines, wiring, etc.
