  • Rear Hatch w/ wiper w/ defrost

    I have a '92 GL.

It has a rear hatch, w/wiper & washer(work great) but w/o defrost, that is rusted out.

    Junkyard has a '92 or '93 hatch(on car) w/wiper w/defrost.

Can someone give me directions on how to remove junkyard hatch as to not damage wiper/washer assembly or defrost.

Then, how do I install defrost setup on my car?

    I'm looking for a basic "how-to", please.

    Thank you.

I checked that out before I posted, but it is not what I'm needing. I probably wasn't clear enough in my original post. I am changing the whole hatchback that has the wiper already installed, plus a defroster. So I was wanting to know the procedure for removal of hatchback from junkyard car, the reinstall, and then hooking up defrost. I miss that defrost up here in Iowa. Fresh, I'm sure you use yours alot down in Mo.

First off the defroster will probably not work properly. Good Luck.

Second The wire connectors are in the driver side tail light pocket. Unplug them. Your car should have these connectors. Grab the switches out of the dash. They just poop out and unplug. Again wires should already be in your car. The rubber grommet at the top of the hatch on the driver side, pull it loose from the body of the car. Pull the wires out of the car not the hatch. Don't know about rubber grommet on other side. Never had it out. Unbolt hatch as necessary.

When you remove the hatch wires from your car, Attach string to at least one wire so that you can use the string to pull the new wires back to the driver side tail light.

if your removing a hatch in a jy by yourself there is a very easy way. Instead of opening the hatch and un-doing the bolts you can see and having to support the hatch at the same time, you close the hatch, go inside the car, slash the headliner at the back, and undo the (12mm iirc) nuts that hold the hinges from the inside. Then go outside and just lift the hatch off.

I swapped my GL hatch with wiper and defog in the J/Y , took maybe 45 min I had to take 2 off and install 1 , so I could drive back .

On the J/Y car , just cut down thru the plastic panels , if they are junk , to get the washer out of the car .
Grab the hatch gasket if it is in good shape . never know when you may need one .
