I've got a 1991 Ford Festiva. The drivers side seatbelt doesn't slide across the frame when I open the door. It sounds and looks like it tries to, but it doesn't move more than an inch or so unless I help it with my hands. I tried to lubricate it, but to no avail. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

the motor for that is near the bottom of the B pillar. if you pop off the trim you'd have access to it and may be able to get some lube into the motor. that track is all 1 piece and bolted in with about 8 bolts plus having to carefully remove the A-B trim and B trim.

Another point..
The switch that starts the belt moving is in the door latch.
Your symptoms also occur when the switch is dirty and not making good electrical contact.
You might try spraying some WD40 in and around the latch. Also with the window down you can aim your little tube toward the latch around
the side of the window channel. This fixes it sometimes.
I assume that just the drivers side door belt is failing.. Is that correct?

In my experience it has been the switch contacts causing the problem. If spraying lubricant doesn’t work I would take off the door panel to get better access to spray it and clean. If that doesn’t fix then remove the latch and clean up good. Then you can’t short the switch wire to ground and see if it keeps the belt motor running. If that doesn’t fix it, it probably is the motor or the worm gears. Sorry I don’t have Ed an extra belt motor.Last edited by 1990new; 02-12-2024, 09:28 AM.
