  • "Dangling Alternator" syndrome

Kia Pride -- model year 2000 (the last) in Sweden.

So I bought this fire-engine-red almost last off the line Festiva successor (sort of) here in Scandinavia. Only 86,000 km on the meter and, except for a wee bit of aft rocker panel rust, it's like a new car.

After less than 500km, on a rainy day, I hear clear "loose alternator belt" squeal. I found that the alternator pivot bolt is, quite literally, GONE!

I could figure out how to disconnect the electrical stuff on the alternator and take it to hardware store to find a new bolt.

It never hurts to ask, however ... does anybody know the specs for this bolt? From past experience with my fleet of Festies, I expect it to use a 14mm socket. The stubby adjustment bolt does indeed use a 12mm socket as expected.

Proper bolt found and installed. My fears of my "dangling alternator" dropping onto the road surface are over.
