So... i made a stupid oopsie. I tripped and tossed a the 10mm bolt (from vaccuum box on top of the valve cover) while buttoning up after a valve cover gasket swap, and it vanished. I think it fell on the passengers side. I searched the ground for like an hour and it is not there. I am kind of concerned it fell down the belt cover since the top of the cover is off(was warped and rubbing), but I dont think that is physically possible. I am still scared that it fell down there, so I want to find the bolt first. Has anyone dropped a bolt and it landed in a weird spot I might have missed?

Sorry for the delay. I assume you’ve already found out how to remove the water pump pulley and timing belt cover. What I wanted to mention is finding the bolt on the ground. When I drop something on the garage floor I lay the trouble light or a flashlight on the floor so the beam sweeps across the floor revealing anything lying there. Shadows in the beam makes things more visible. The same should work outside in the grass. Also shining a light vertically and horizontally after dark can make things more visible. Sometimes the light will reflect off the metal better in the dark. Hope you’ve already found it.

I was hoping to avoid pulling the cover, but I might end up doing it. It is not my daily so it is not a huge issue. Ill give the flashlight trick a try but my driveway is pebble so I dont expect much. Thanks for the help. This incident did prompt me to go to the junkyard where they have a 94 323 with 90k on the motor..... so I might just end up doing a swap lol.
