  • Timing cover seal/spacer

    Hello,

Anyone have any novel ideas on how to make a new seal for a spaced timing cover. My timing cover is starting to warp/rub on the upper pulley, but I would still like to keep it. I was planning on spacing the upper cover with some washers and mcgyvering a new seal. I don’t want to resort to just a whole bunch of rtv. Is there like a rubber cord or something I could use?

    Thanks

You can get a brand new upper timing cover which includes the gasket at the Festiva Store for $136 plus shipping.
I have two brand new upper timing cover seal kits (which included the Cam Seal). You pay postage and I will send you one.
Message me with particulars if you want it.

Or if you show up at my house in Charleston, there would be no postage and you can help me clean out my garage by taking away all my remaining Festiva parts.

Thank you for the offer, but it is for a b6. If I find myself down south, I might reach out. I plan on visiting North Carolina to visit some friends, but that is years in the future. My b3 was leaking from everywhere and I came across a low mileage b6 and couldn’t pass on it. My festy has been out of commission for a year or so, but with gas prices going up I have to get her back on the road.

Oh... sorry I don't have any b6 parts. I did have an AC Pulley and clutch that you could have used with the B6 crank pulley but I gave that away some time ago. ( For a while I was collecting conversion parts when I was considering a B6 swap for one of my Festivas)
Depending on the part of NC you are visiting, it would likely be at least a couple hundred miles further on to Charleston.
Good luck getting your Festiva back on the road. I drive my 89 automatic somewhere around town almost every day... Our current price for regular unleaded here on James Island is $4.19. had been $2.59 before all the Iran stuff started.

I think I may have found the b6 pulley, but the guy I get my parts from just had emergency surgery. Hopefully he recovers quickly. It’s up to 4.60 up here in northern Colorado.

Northern Colorado ... I lived in Northglenn (a northern suburb of Denver) back in 1970-71 and worked downtown at 700 17th St (that building is now called the United Western Financial Center building).
While we were there, my wife had emergency surgery for a tubular pregnancy at St. Lukes Hospital in downtown Denver. Luckily she came through it OK.

I hope the guy you are talking about recovers from his surgery quickly and is back driving his Festiva soon.

I Drove up to Cheyenne WY one weekend while we lived there so I may have passed your abode... but I'm sure that was probably way before you were born.

Hope you get you economical Festiva back on the road soon.
