I good way to determine....look at the a** end of the fan motor....up above the gas pedal... if the vents in the motor are bad...i'm sure the core could use a cleaning. Stefafn, do you hve a picture of such to createa a reference point?

Stefan if you have access to shop air then blow out the whole system before you put the core back in. the compressed air in a can works ok. make sure your "vent door" the one that goes to the outside of the car is clean as well when I first got the blue one it had leaves behind the door. I would also pick up a cooling system flushing kit. you can run it with the T-stat in but make sure that the fan comes on and runs till it stops when you flush that way you know it made it through the motor. I've gone as far as taking the T-stat out to flush, plus while you got it out you can check and see if its got the right t-stat in it

Sorry for bringing this back up from the dead, but I suspect that I have the very same issue. Weak heat, car gets nicely warm with a new thermostat, and the front vents get plenty of blasting power while the heater ones don't. What's the easiest way to remove the heater core like this and clean it out? I've been searching to no avail thus far.1988 Chevy Sprint Turbo 997cc
