  • Blower motor control circuit

Am i reading this right? It looks to me that even on max speed the blower motor is running thru one resistor. So its never blowing at full speed?

Seems weird... i know the motor can run on full 12v

Bingo....goes thru the resistor at high speed...not uncommon.
yes they can typically run at 12V...but you missed something....at high speed the center post of the switch (common) is also connected to the ECA at that position. I don't no the internal make up of the ECA (pull up, pull down, differential...transitor stuf) but maybe it has to do with that....I would say running the fan at high speed..full 12V..could neglect the ECA input (required for idle) and/or damage the input. I will look in the big book later and see if the ohms value is published...maybe it will provide some more info.

Interesting... i see that.. i thought that all had to do with AC

My blower specifically says 12v on it. So if it can be done without messing up the ECA it looks like we could easily install a 4th speed, just run a ground to the - side of the motor (switched) and turn it on for a 4th speed.

lol does your fan not blow enough in the third speed? I know mine is loud and pushes a ton of air when in third.

On my 96 Aspire, this resistor seems to be toast, as I am not getting any blower motor action. I have confirmed the blower motor is good (Just replaced it) I believe the old one was getting tired and caused something else to go..

I have checked all fuses and relays, would there be anything else other than this resistor that I can check?

And does anyone know the Part number for this resistor? Short of pilaging another aspire in the local Pick and Pull.

              Thoughts?

It's already a 4 speed fan from the factory.
