  • RPM rise when clutch is pushed in?

I have just switched my 89 Festiva L that has a 91 engine from Automatic to a 5spd. The car runs great, but when i go to shift, the rpm's rise for several seconds and then drop as normal. This problem occurs at every shift even when the car has warmed up. Why is this?

Note: I left the switch on the gas pedal hooked up, not sure what it does.

    THanks for the help!

Pardon me for being ignorant, but what is the PCM 9. I was told that the ecu's were the same for both a manual and automatic.

Would any computer for a manual festiva work?

PCM= Engine Computer. I think that 9 was supposed to be a bracket

FB71 may be able to help you, I do know that there is a switch that is activated anytime the car is in gear. I think this sends a signal to the computer that it is in gear rather than in Neutral. I believe this allows the engine to adjust the computer to take the load?? FB71 - Can you elaborate on that switch in the gearbox that is activated when put in gear?
