  • festiva leaking from freeze plug

    Hi all

Are there any easy fixes for a leaking freeze plug? I have a 91 Festiva GL. Anti-freeze is puddling up on the lip of the freeze plug where it indents into the block. I don't think it is coming from higher up.

Loctite 680...it is green thread locker. This product is a wicking type thread locker...it weeps into the small gaps only...like that between a nut and bolt thread...takes 24hrs to dry.
Will be available at Car Quest, NAPA, Grainger or online...they sell really small bottles.
It will work best if you drain the cooling system from the and spray it clean with air or brake kleen or alcohol.
The components need to be really clean for any product to work.

They are not that hard to change out if you rather

Frost plugs can be difficult to replace. They always rotate on you, and you often times end up knocking them in too far.

The easiest fix is to pull the frost plug out and replace it with a block heater. Those may be hard to come by in California however.
