My door has a little rubber bumper thing that actually helps push it in and it covers it like a seal to keep debris out of the switch .

inspect the rubber dust boot on the door that encases the switch plunger when the door is closed. in the middle is a raised rubber button which is the part of the boot that actually holds the switch plunger depressed. over time, with the plunger constantly pressing against this button, it has a tendency to develop a shallow dimple which allows the plunger to release enough to keep the interior lights on even when the door is closed. you can slip a washer or cardboard or whatever behind the boot to move the button closer to the jamb and plunger. this would be easier than putting washers behind the escution of the switch which would also create a space to let moisture get into the jamb/rocker space. if you need new ones, let me know.
