  • Hatch problems

Seems like something is froze up on the rear hatch. Ive been hosing it down with penetrating oil. The key will not turn hardly in either direction. And the handle doesnt seem to compress correctly.
Is there any way to open the hatch besides the handle?

Remove the interior panels and unlock the latch from the inside.

^^Try again...that's your only option. You see a rod between the key/ hanle and the latch. As you pull on the rod...have someone from the outside push the door inwards to try to remove some undo pressure on the latch.

The tab is a locking mechanism so you don't have to use your key.

Take the latch out and work on it. Festivas accumulate dust back there. The one on jesse was so bad I couldn't get in it either. I just took the whole latch out and threw it in some waste oil for a couple of day then fished it out and worked on the mechanisms until they worked freely again. It was really jammed up from 19 years of dust. The hatch hadn't been opened in years.

Yeah Im sure thats the problem I have is its just locked up from non use and setting around. But Ive got to get it opened before I can pull it out and clean it. Or are you telling me theres a way to get it out without opening it? I mean it looks a tad tight but I thought I might be able to get a wrench on those bolts on the underside of the hatch.

You should be able to open it via the connecting rods from the lock and the handle. You will have to undo the lock rod if you dont have the key or if the lock is jammed up. Seems like I was able to get a screw driver in there to force the locking mech. open on the latch.

I just took off the two bolts on the bottom so it was loose and sprayed a bunch of silicone spray all over it. Now it works
