  • first set of silly questions

OK gurus, time to help the noob out. As you know I have picked up my first festy and have few quirks Im trying to farm out.

    first
I have heat out of the defrost vents, floor and combination when selected. Put it on the vents that blow on you..cold. Why? I have looked and my cables seem to select correctly. Any common promlems?

    2nd
What all factory radios will plug in and work? Apire? T-bird,stang,etc.. And what years?

    3rd
My seat belts will not recoil. The automatic track works correctly but the shoulder strap stays unwound.

My festy is a 92 with factory air. I tried the search option but couldn't find what I need and I havn't gotten a repair manual yet. Thanx in advance guys!

    1) heater just works that way , very normal . You will never get heat out of you dash vents .

    2) I am not a radio expert , someone else will chime in on this one.

    3) Check to see if something is binding the belt , You may have something caught in the retractor , maybe take it apart and clean and lubricate it .

As far as the radio goes, I believe that the factory connectors are different than the other fords even though the front may look the same. So they won't work. Might be a Mazda connector so a Mazda might have a radio that would work. But I'm not sure on that.

my heater sucks too , if it takes a REALLY long time to heat up, like mine, i'm pretty sure its the thermostat that needs to be replaced, the boys here will know more about that than me but its a cheap part.
Proud owner of 92L, 350KM, Home made muffler, sounds like a truck! 16 years without replacement of anything but filters! 5spd EFI, Anyone else's shifter look like its from a quarter-ton?

              Seat belt recoil:
I had this problem, it was worse in damp weather (we get a lot of that in the UK). I pulled out as much belt as possible, and cleaned it with a damp cloth. When it was dry I used a silicone spray (furniture polish) on the belt. Don't soak it, just a light application was sufficient. Pay particular attention to where the belt goes through the hoop at shoulder level. It worked for me!
