  • Larger Oil Filter

I know this has been discussed before, but I cannot find the post that says what larger oil filter bolts onto the Festiva.

    Can anyone help me out?

There's a comment about it in the projectmazda project festiva B6 swap page. Maybe that's what you saw.

They said the Corvette ZR-1 filter fits.

    Hope that helps

Brand is much more important than size.

A larger filter isn't going to increase filteration, but rather only extended life (I doubt you're running extended drain intervals anyways) and possibly flow at high rpms.

Sounds like someone has a little one...

But yah, you're right So far my extended drain time is.... (in actual time) 1.6 years. In miles, somewhere around 8000 miles (I didn't drive it for a good long time in the middle). Thinkin I should probably do that before I drive the 600 miles back to CT this weekend.

No idea, previous owner probably put whatever was cheapest in there.

If it blows up, i'll buy a new car and maybe finally put a motor swap into this one. I'm not too worried.

I just changed the oil; went with a stock Festiva filter.

Up until the very end I hadn't spilled a drop of oil, and then I kicked the oil bottle over crawling out from under the car... :cussing:

The neighbours are going to yell at because of the new greasy spot on the street as a result of my carelessness...

The oil was really thin; but considering I last changed it about 4000 miles ago in December I'm not surprised...

Viscosity at ambient temp is hard to judge.

Besides, overly thick oil at start up isn't good for OHC engines. Be more concerned with viscosity at operating temp.

Did it smell like gas? I've noticed many festiva/aspires have fuel dillution problems.

I can't tell ya how many times I didn't spill a drop and then as I'm getting out from under the car I kick over a half quart of oil. Last time I did it I even put the quart very far away and somehow managed to kick it over.

I prefill my oil filter a tad. Helps get oil pressure up quicker.

I stopped using the ZR1 filter on my MX3 b/c they are hard to find and don't seal 100% correctly. I use the festiva size filter now. The taller small-as-shit one in that pic on my site is the stock V6 filter which IMO is way too damn small for that engine. The festiva uses the same filter that all hondas, and a lot of nissans use so they are readily available everywhere.

Now that you mention it, there was a kind of gasoline smell to the oil...

Glad I'm not the only one to have kicked the oil bottle over. Luckily I thought fast and got most of the oil up before it turned into a nightmare...

I had 2.5% fuel in my oil after 4000 miles a year and a half ago.

Now, after two auto-rx treatments, all my used oil analysis have been coming back NEG for fuel.

Short trips and cold weather can also help add to the fuel dillution problem. However, I tend to do lots of highway miles.

Gravel driveway and tons of rain make oil spills a non-issue.

Keeps the weeds out of the driveway too. I'm considering keeping my used oil to spray on blackberries.
