    93 festiva gl

which is the better way to remove and install the alternator.

from the top or go from under the car.

i've done it from the top,but would be easier to do from the bottom. i did it from the top because i have back problems and can't get up off the ground easy. on a fuel injected car it might be easy from the top because of less emission hoses, vacuum lines and such.

looks like the bracket may be in the way from the top. the ground is soaked from snow so i did not want a jakstand to sink while i was under it.

It's easier from the top! Remove the alternator bracket on a EFI car. I never could figure out how to get it out from under the car like the Ford manual says. The OD of the alternator is larger than the distance between the steering rack and firewall or between it and the engine......

I always removed mine from the bottom. Mines carbed with A/C and there was no way I could see to get it out from the top. I had to jack up that side though to fit it between the steering rack and the axle.

I do not have AC. It is much easier from the top on mine.

ahh i didn't know it could fit through the top and i have a/c. darn. but to go through the bottom you gotta push it through and bend the cat sheild a little bit. bad thing is its the same way to get back in.

have someone push the heater core hose in while you push the alternator down. but i still have the electrical problem. different alternator new battery and after a week of driving something is draining the battery. jumpstarted at work drove 3 miles home and parked it and it will not start eventhough i just drove it.
