  • Auto-rx.com in an automatic transmission results!

Wow, first time I've used it in a transmission. I'm shocked!

Anyways, bought a 4Runner with almost 198k miles on it.

Drained out 4 quarts (of 4.8 quarts) from the transmission and filled it with fresh fluid. I then added 4 oz of www.auto-rx.com which I have used successfully on many engines.

Drove it 1100 miles give or take a bit and decided to check the fluid level to make sure it's not leaking. OMG! The stuff was almost black.

So here's a picture of what I drained out. I replaced another gallon of fluid today and added another 4 oz of auto-rx. I guess I'll check it again in another 1000 miles or so.

On the paper towel are a few drops of the fluid I drained out of there and to the far right a drop of brand new ATF. What a difference!

I've been encouraging everyone to use it on their motors for years, but if you have any significant amount of miles on your vehicle you might want to do the automatic transmission also.

I haven't noticed a difference in shifting or anything, but comparing immediately before and immediately after the fluid change I notice it goes into reverse a lot quicker when I shift. Less of a "pause".

After 1000 miles your ATF looks like that?

Then you REALLY need an auto-rx treatment so the next time it DOESN'T look like that.

Are you talking about an automatic or manual transmission? If it's automatic you were probably better off just to leave it dirty.

no, When I just drain the pan and refill on a trans that has currently has dark fluid, that's what it looks like after a few hours of run time.

keep in mind, that 4.8 quarts is only what was in the pan. The torque converter holds about another 4qts, and the cooling system can hold 2qts.

when you change only 40% of the fluid, and introduce a fresh additive package of detergents, the new fluid rapidly discolors as it picks up and suspends the debris (I know you know all of this, DD).

I don't dispute Auto-RX's possible benefits, I'm just pointing out issues with your observations.

By changing your trans fluid every 60k miles or so, you can prevent it from ever looking like that.

That's the popular thought. I'm trying to see how well auto-rx works in a transmission.

I believe the total capacity is 10 to 11 quarts. However, the original fluid I took out wasn't nearly this dark, after driving it for about 10 miles to check the fluid level it wasn't nearly this dark. It did a lot of cleaning.

I bought it used with 200k miles on it. /shrug

Also, most manufacturer's recommend 30k mile ATF intervals. Synthetic ATF can typically go 60k to 90k safely in most vehicles.
