  • Transmission stuck in Reverse. Help!

Ok, first, I lost 1,3 and 5th gear. Then, I shifted to reverse and it stayed. I cant get it out of reverse. The linkage is fine under the car, but the part that actually goes into the trans is easy to move around, with no resistance, other than the rubber bellows. Is this part repairable? Maybe a pin fell out? Or the part broke? Does anyone have any idea?

I did search, alot, but couldnt find anything when I searched for "Transmission stuck in reverse"

    Please help!

As he was perfectly drifting past the apex I looked at Quasimofo and yelled "You know, I have never been in a rollover accident before!"... I think it all went pretty well after that.

sounds like the roll pin securing the shift-shaft to the selector lever sheared off. Only way to repair it is to remove the trans and open it up.

I figured that the trans was coming out, either way. Is this deep inside the trans, or not to far? I dont want to have to go way in...

Switch the tranny that what I did when mine was stuck in fifth gear. This is pretty easy.

BPT, G5M-R, BP26 Exintake swap + Fidanza cam gear, NSRT4 FMIC + 2.5" piping, HKS SSQV BOV, Exedy clutch, 3" downpipe + 2" all the way back, Aspire brake swap, KYB GR-2 & FMS coil spring , FMS EURO body kit + Carbon fiber hood, Falcon RTX 15X6½ + Toyo proxes T1R 195/45R15

It could also be in your gate assembly. Mine was stuck in reverse when I got my old 95 aspire. I had to take some of it apart and that was it.

Whats the gate assembly? Do you mean in the trans?

Either way, Ive got a line on a Festiva trans for 50 bucks...So I will put that in, and fix my Aspire trans, and keep it around as a spare, and or sell it.

the shift-shaft and selector lever comprise the gate assembly.

As for being 'deep' inside the trans, you'll need to split the case halves, and the shifting assembly should be readily accessible without breaking down the internals significantly.

I think you should be able to, you might have to weld the plate back together. Mine warped and that was why I didn't use it. if you do weld it be careful not to warp it. Like FB71 said its not hard to get to or get out.

Maybe I will crack this one open to see if I can fix it for a spare or I will sell it off.

                        50$!!! $@%#$^#$^#$^!! my god i paid 500.
My festiva was stuck in reverse as well, a long time ago, it was on a flat bit of ground, and i dont remember how but i got it facing down my drive a bit on a hill, and it came out of gear, i drove it for quite a while afterwords and no problems.
Please post your findings inside the transmission, i too wouldn't mind learning a bit about transmissions.
