  • Head gasket problems

I have been looking for a FF for about 6 months now and I finally came across this http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/car/606726166.html one. It is only $200 but it needs a head gasket. The seller is about 100 miles away from where I live and using my AAA towing would still cost a fortune since they only cover 10 mile radius. My question is, is the vehicle still drivable even with a bad head gasket? I just need to drive the car home.

like i said in the other one, it depends on how bad it is. if its bubbling out the radiator, then no. if its just barely leaking, maybe, but i dont think i'd drive it 100 miles anyway.
89 L, hopefully returning from the dead soon with a little more power...

I could get a FF that actually drives but it cost $700 and the funny thing is, it's at a dealership. http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/car/610783180.html

i'd go for the 700 dollar one. unless you can figure out a way to pull the other one home, then get them both! where is this, btw?

i'd drive it home, ive driven mine through worse and it made it......if it starts, do it! just don't let it over heat and only drive it like that ONCE to get it home, then flush the oil and coolent out of it and slap on a new gasket, the coolent will eat the lead off your bearing inserts so get that contaminated oil out of there as soon as you can

This may sound counterintuitive, but I have sealed a bad head gasket on my baby car with prestone radiator stop leak, the kind that looks like black pellets, NOT the metal shavings, and then driven over 100 miles....
Just a thought, and a possible option, not guarenteed though.....

The head gasket is only going to get worse as you drive it....I wouldn't bet on it staying the same or getting any better as you drive.

Too true. If it keeps leaking, you will keep overheating, and you will end up with some pretty severe internal engine damage!
