You wanna have fun, try having one of your rear wheels snap off at 55MPH
^Courtesy of Midas^ :withstupid: However, did end up getting about 800 bucks worth of work done free that the car needed anyway.

      What do YOU recommend?

One that’s longer or one that’s thicker, or maybe a bit of both? Hummmmm…
Or maybe one that just lasts longer?, but not too long!
If extra lubrication is required, what do you recommend?
      :laughing3: :ky:

check everything. i'd imagine that the rotor would be damaged, probably the lowerball joint, and maybe the wheel bearings (dunno but i doubt they are built to handle a hard impact like that).
my folks had the front wheels fall off their taurus one time, the guy at firestone didn't tighten the lugnuts down...really f-ed up the allowy wheels, kinda reamed out the bolt holes, no other damage though. the guys at firestone watched it happen 3 feet out their door and paid for the new wheels and 4 new tires to avoid a lawsuit.

            wheel falling off

one time before leaving to go back to Florida i dropped my sunbird off to the mechanic complaining about a clicking sound coming from the front end . when i came back after the trip he said " dummy you forgot to tighten the lug nuts when you changed the tire" i said it was not me that did not tighten the lug nuts it was Sam's club where i got the tire 2 days before.

For those who care (which is no probably no one ), it was a ball joint, so the whole assembly fell off. Fortunately it happenned when the car was beign driven very slow, on it's way to the garage because it was acting strange.

Should I be checking the other side, if so how?

Don't bother checking it just replace it. The ball joints get pretty much equal wear and if one went the other shouldn't be that far behind.

Now I am going to revive this thread.

like 13 years ago we were on a family trip to New York to visit some family out there, and on the way back after fueling up, we were only on the highway for like 5 minutes, and the front passenger wheel of our 97' Windstar shot off into the woods (Could never find it) luckily we were in the right hand lane, so no one else got involved. Scrapped the bottom of the rotor completely flat, and knocked a huge dent in the fender outwards.

Turned out that when my father rotated the tires before the trip, he overtorqued the lugs.
