  • Engine dies when given throttle

Hey all, I got an 89 festiva 1.3L, carberated with manual transmission.

Yesterday I tried driving my festy and it has no power. It fires up and idles fine but when you start to give it gas, it starts choking out and would completely die unless you let off. It feels like trying to take off in fourth gear, but i wasn't, it did the same thing in reverse and even in neutral. The only other weird thing it was doing previously, was after driving it, when you turned the key off, the engine would try to keep running for another couple seconds, but would choke itself out, not sure if the two problems could be related.

I'm kinda baffled, because it had been running fine when i parked it, and it only sat for a couple days.

I had just given it a sweet paint job and tinted the windows too, maybe it didn't like that.

But anyhow, please let me know what you think it might be, I need to get it running again, before my F-150 @ 12 MPG bankrupts me. Thanks!

Check all the linkages for kins or bends, try shootin a little cleaner through the carb, it might be gettin 2 much air and not enough fuel. it could also have a lot of carbon build up in the eninge, that would cause the engine to try and keep running when u turn it off, the carb might just need a little work and cleaning

Check no vacuum hose has worked loose. Just push each one on snug and see if that fixes the problem.

Check your fuel fliter. Sounds like its not getting fuel, could be a plugged filter or a broken/leaking line causing it to loose prime.

Hey thanks for the feedback, I changed the fuel filter, it didn't look bad, but it runs fine again, so hopefully that was it.

            Thanks

Awesome! The majority of the time its the little things that we over look that end up being the problem.
