what are the rear nuts that hold the drums together supposed to be torqued to? when I make them tight the wheel does not spin freely?

Tighten to 18-22lb-ft while spinning the the drum. then loosen the lock nut until it can be turned by hand. Then stake it or put your pin in depending on which type you have. I think you are suppose to add seal drag to the preload torque but I never bother with that mainly cause I dont have a wrench good enough to measure it. Dont forget to fully release that darn self adjuster.

I wrecked the bearing on my right-hand rear wheel the first time I removed the drum. I never expected it to be a left-hand thread, and consequently over-tightened it trying to undo it.

ok so tighten it up and spin to press it together and then loosen it and stake it. I got that but what is the self adjuster? is it the part inside the drum that has the little teeth on it?
