  • 93 Festiva transaxle problem

Hello Guys, My trans in my festiva is crapping out on me ,I'v lost 4th an jumps out of 5th real bad, been looking for another one an so far not haveing any luck. But every one asks is it a 3 bolt or 4 bolt mount an none of them can tell me which mount they are talking about.I have not taken mine apart yet but would like to know just what to look for when I do, this car has 206k on it an still runs great an the last I drove it was still getting 48mpg, hate to give up on it I'am sure it has a lot of good miles left in it if I can find another trans . Thanks for any advice Slimone

I have no idea what they are talking about. All festivas from 90-93 had the same manual transmission. All festiva manual transmissions have the same bolt pattern and are interchangeable. All festiva transmission mount the same also. There were two different festiva manual transmissions, one was a 4-speed the other a 5-speed. They are identical when it comes to mounting them so in a sense they are interchangeable. Is it a parts store that is asking 3 or bolt mount, or is it a junkyard? If a junkyard tell them you will take a 5-speed transmission out of festiva, no matter what their computer says. Also make sure they are looking under Ford Festiva and not Fiesta or something else.

car-parts only does it for 1993. Buy a transmission for a 1992 and you should have no problem.

That is what I thought it was. A similar thing happens if you look up a 1990 festiva. It will ask you if it is FI or carburated. All 1990's were FI, it is just a carry over from 1989 because that was the only year that both were available.
