door wiring

i have a 91 L that doesnt have power anything. my question is, what are the wires going into the doors?
i live in florida and am wanting to take the doors off for the summer and need to kno if i can cut those wires w/ out consiquence.

I know that some wires for power mirrors are run into the doors, even on cars without power mirrors. Not sure if any other wires go in the door though.

so if i dont have anything powered threw the doors, then it should be ok to clip them right?

Yes. The wires for the power mirrors terminate, just inside the door. You can cut them and your car will stil run.

I just got out my EVT manual and it shows a wiring harness for the door catch switch also running through the door to the latch. I'm not sure what it's for. Maybe the dash light that shows door ajar??? You could cut this one also and maybe jumper it to keep the dash light from coming on.

Those wires go to your seat belts! That harness terminates at the door latch, and they tell the belts to cycle back and forth. Don't cut them!

my seat belts dont work anyway. i dont even have any left in there.

You should just try to fix those seat belts, unless to plan on changing them out to manual ones. You can't drive a car with no doors unless you have a working shoulder and lap belt. Is it even legal to drive with no doors in your state? I know in Illinois you're not supposed to but people do it anyways. Illinois requires a safari door bar to be there.

If you look up under the dash just on the other side of the grommet the wiring passes through, there is a plug that isn't hard to get to if you take the speaker out. Disconnect the harness, push the 2 tabs in on the pastic reinforcement on the grommet, and it will be out of your way, wiring intact in case you change your mind later. I can send you pics of the pieces if it will help.

i think its legal, i see jeeps all the time with no doors at all.

Yeah, I had a minivan that the door hinge had broken on, I asked at the cop shop if I could drive with no door for a day while it was being welded(the door frame itself needed work as well), and they said sure, jeeps do it all the time, you have to have your seatbelts on, which, in chapel hill NC, other than dui, seems to be the only thing they pull you over for anyway!
Good Lord, people drive FAST around here....
