Cam followers

Need some help with this,please.Just saved a 90 festy from the scrapper.219,000 miles.Its rough.The previous owner had a couple of guys work on the valve train after it got noisy on him.It had lost a cam follower,the little pad on the rocker that rides on the cam.It did it to him again,he wondered about the oil pump being bad.It is noisy on start up,after a little bit it quiets down.I got the car,pulled the rocker cover and there it is again,cam follower on the intake,outboard pass side shattered.The cam lobe "looks"good by eye,the rockers were replaced with new ones.I am new to this little engine,but not a stranger to a wrench.I considered the bronco festiva mod,but,the bronco does its job real well,festy not so much.The 2.9 might just fit in the festy,dont get the smileage I am looking for!Anyone out there like to give some advice,new guy needs some.Thanks.

look for a broken spring , bent valve or a badly worn valve guide

other possibility the rocker arms are in the wrong position
