So I just dumped a 95 engine into my 97 Aspire. Of course the guy I got the motor from said it was identical and me being a Newbie, I believed him. I think he was almost right. It all seemed to jive right until I came to the crank position sensor. Of course on the 95, the cps was in the distributor and on my 97 it was at the crank pulley. Is there a way to deal with this? Can I just drop in a 95 distributor and call it done or would I have to do something else as well? I did build a bracket to put the cps on using a timing cover bolt and a mouting bolt for the A/C but it might not be as "perfect" as I thought. Has anyone dealt with this or am I up poopey creek without an outboard? Thanks.

You will need to use all the electronics from the 97. Your car's computer system is OBD 2 while the 1995 motor is OBD 1 and does not use the same sensors. In order to get your car to run correctly, you will need to use the distributor and CPS from your old motor. Can you not pull the bracket off your old motor for the CPS? This sensor typically requires fairly precise installation. The sensor in the distributor of the 95 motor is actually a camshaft position sensor not a crankshaft position sensor. The cam spins at half the speed of the crankshaft and won't work as a substitute.The Festiva Store

I can't pull the bracket off of the old (97 model year) motor for the CPS because there is no bracket. It is a threaded casting in the block that doesn't exist on the new (95 model year) engine. That's why I attempted to fab my own bracket using a bolt for the timing cover and one from the a/c mount. The bracket is as close to "dead-nuts" as I could get and I think its on the money but...
Otherwise, I am using the complete wiring harness and everything out of the '97. Also, I am using the '97 distributor. I don't have the distributor from the '95. Are there any sensors on the '95, besides the CPS, that need to be swapped out to the stuff off of my '97? All of the connectors on the '97 harness hook up to the '95 but are they different?
